Library Assistant – Part-time, $11.56 per hour, Franklin branch – closing date: February 29, 2020
Blackwater Regional Library is seeking a part-time (14-20 hours/week) Library Assistant for the Franklin branch. This position includes evening hours and every other Saturday.
Library Director – Full-time, $67,000.00 per year, Courtland, VA – closing date: March 15, 2020
The Board of Trustees of Blackwater Regional Library (BRL) is seeking an experienced, energetic, and creative Library Director. The Board consists of fifteen members appointed by various jurisdictions of the region served by the Library. They work closely with the Library Director in matters of long-range planning and policy, development, public relations, budgeting, management of the endowment, and issues of personnel.
The library employs a staff of 45, both full and part-time, and has an annual budget of approximately $1.7 million. The regional system consists of nine library locations plus a Bookmobile. It serves five jurisdictions covering 1600 sq. miles in the Tidewater area of Southeastern Virginia, with a population of 81,567.
There are three libraries located in Isle of Wight County, two in Sussex County, two in Surry County, one in the City of Franklin, and one in Southampton County, which also houses the Central Office.
The Director must have the organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills to meet all responsibilities outlined in the Library Director’s job description. These include management of Library operation through oversight of staff, budget, collections, and facilities; regular communication and interaction with the Board of Trustees, especially in matters of planning, policy, development and reporting; and representation and advocacy for BRL in the community-at-large.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and ability to articulate the public library’s vision, mission, and values to the community. The job requires collaboration and consensus-building skills, excellent interpersonal and team-building skills, facility maintenance and space planning experience, and sound fiscal management skills. The successful candidate will have a history of responsiveness to staff, customer and community needs and concerns. Experience with multiple facilities serving multiple jurisdictions, working with elected officials, and computer networking knowledge is highly desirable.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited, MLS or MLIS degree is required. Possession of (or the ability to obtain) a Virginia Librarian’s Certificate and a valid driver’s license is required. Professional experience of at least five years, including at least three years of supervisory experience in library management is desired.
Anticipated starting salary is $67,000 and includes an excellent benefit package including enrollment into the Virginia Retirement System.
BRL is located in Southeastern Virginia. We are an hour’s drive from Virginia Beach, Richmond and Williamsburg, and within three hours of Washington DC, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
