The first recorded cookbook is said to consist of four clay tablets from 1700 BCE in Ancient Mesopotamia. Today, most homes have an eclectic mix of cookbooks – everything from those purchased for a church fundraiser to handwritten family heirlooms. This lecture, presented by the Isle of Wight County Museum, highlights cookbook history as well as their influence on history, manners and nutrition over the years. Bring your favorite cookbook to share! We’ll even sample a few recipes from the newly re-released “Smithfield Cookbook”.  Registration is required, seating is limited; call 757-357-2264.

The Isle of Wight County Museum will present a program about the history of cookbooks and have a few recipes ready to sample as well. Call 757-357-2264 to register.
