About the Program
Our Summer Reading Program offers children fantastic books, performances, and contests. This summer the library celebrates T. J. Reader and Virginia Tales. |
To Register
Sign up at the library starting on June 1. Some branches will host fun
Kick-Off Celebrations. Check our calendar of Summer Reading Program Events for more information. |
Reading Logs
We give children reading logs so they can track the books they read during the summer. Children who turn in the reading log at the end of summer receive a cool award.
Contest
This summer we're asking children to write or draw the first page of their very own story. What's the name of the story? Once Upon A Time In Virginia. Entries are due by July 31. The winner in each age group (3-5, 6-9, 10-13) will get to see their page on our website.
How It Helps Your Child
Statistics indicate that children who read throughout the summer return to school with larger vocabularies and strengthened reading comprehension skills. We're proud to report that 2,315 children and 230 teens participated in our Summer Reading Programs last year.
